Glebe FC 1 Whyteleafe FC 3. Foxbury Avenue.
FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round. Attendance – 232.
And so the 2020/21 season is underway, a trip to Chislehurst was the destination of our first competitive game of the new season and the road to Wembley began. Our opponents Glebe compete in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division which is a level/step lower than Whyteleafe. Whyteleafe managed to come out on top in this game and their class showed over the 90 minutes even though Glebe did create a few chances and had spells where they looked dangerous especially from set pieces. First goal for Leafe came in the 25th minute with Ryan Gondoh scoring a freekick from around 35 yards out, 5 minutes later and Ryan Gondoh had a freekick from a similar position, this time the goalkeeper saved it but it was spilt and it fell to David Owusu-Akyeaw to tap in from close range. 3 minutes into the second half and Glebe managed to pull a goal back, 5 yellow cards were handed out in an 8 minute period and a further yellow card followed after a miss-timed challenge on Chibuike Ezennolim in the penalty box. Ryan Gondoh confidently put the penalty away and gave Leafe the 2 goal advantage. Into injury time and Glebe found themselves down to 10 men with Chris Parr receiving a second yellow card. The attendance of 232 was actually a record attendance for a competitive match at Foxbury Avenue with a decent number of Leafe fans making up that number on the night!
